Techniques

I am experienced in Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, pregnancy massage, and geriatric massage. With these skills, you and I can make the following happen.

  • Relaxation. By using steady soothing strokes that focus on your skin and superficial muscles (the ones closest to the surface), we can work to help you let go of some of the stress and agitation that comes to your life. A massage focused on relaxation can increase circulation, improve lymph drainage, encourage your nervous system to come down from its "fight or flight" condition and let you catch your breath!
  • Release and relief. When you get knotted up-in your shoulders, your legs, your arms, your neck, wherever -- we can work to alleviate some of the discomfort associated with that knotted-ness. The work in this case focuses on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of your body. We work to get in close contact with the superficial muscles and the deeper muscles of your body to help them release tension and tightness they may be holding on to.
  • Some people who have had deep tissue work done think that it has to hurt. It does not have to be this way. You and I will work together to be as effective as we can while keeping your discomfort as low as possible.

  • Pregnancy relief. Pregnancy is a time of enormous change in the body of a woman and the life of a family. Pregnancy massage is fantastic for helping a woman move through her pregnancy with some comfort and ease. My clients most often request work on neck and shoulders (growing bust and interrupted sleep), back (growing abdomen), hips (widening pelvis), legs and feet (weight of baby and swelling). I can also help you with labor and post-delivery challenges.
  • Geriatric massage. When we get to the later decades of our life, the changes in our body can come to dominate our lives. Massage can help with many of the conditions common to us in our later decades. It can also give an experience of loving gentle touch that is so welcome when most of our touch comes from physical therapy or medical visits. It can aid sleep, improve digestion, and bring comfort, right up the end of our lives.
